Dear citizens of Tripoli, friends of the Cultural Animal Welfare Association,

Following the presence of a team from the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Companion Animals of the Ministry of the Interior at the stray animal shelter of the Municipality of Tripoli and the events that unfolded following inspections, we want to inform all of you who support us of our position on the developments and of our responsibility for all that we were unable to do. It is It is known that members of the Association participated and participate in the Five-Member Committee for the Management of Stray Animals of the Municipality in their capacity as members. Our goal has always been to utilize this institutional position for the benefit of the animals for whose defense we have been fighting daily for the last 10 years at personal, moral, and material costs. The management issues were visible with the Municipality noting them and requesting our opinions and cooperation in order to utilize all the know-how and experience we have. In order to elaborate an operating plan adapted to the needs and capabilities of the Municipality from the first day of operation of the committee, we requested: all documents, active contracts, reintegration data, animal data, sterilization data, real-time updates to the adoption website, budgeted expenses and how they have been distributed. We received: certificates of proper execution of the Municipality's business plan (unknown how and by whom it was prepared) signed by competent Municipality employees and a referral to Diavgeia so that we could search for the documents ourselves. We requested the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Municipality and our association in order to facilitate our involvement. We received: pressure on the grounds of urgency and the imperative release of funds to ensure animal welfare in order to sign an accounting report for 2024. Most of us refused to sign due to the lack of documents and being unable to trust the verbal assurances of the Municipality and the incomplete to non-existent information it provided us. We declare that we do not intend to sign any report for 2024 until the supporting documents requested by official correspondence are communicated to us.

In the immediate future, we will submit our proposals to the Municipality for the last time to optimize the operation of the shelter, as the city cannot be exposed any longer due to the inadequacy or incompetence of those responsible. Those citizens who share the same sensitivities and the same willingness to contribute as us, we invite you to join us in the coming period to strengthen the voice of our four-legged friends.
